Haynes® 230® Alloy Overview
Haynes® 230® alloy is a high-performance alloy used in high-temperature applications. This nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum alloy has improved performance over iron-nickel-chromium and nickel-chromium alloys, with increased thermal stability, strength, and ductility. It is extremely heat-resistant and can be used at temperatures up to 2100°F (1150°C) for prolonged periods.
Haynes® 230® Alloy Forms
Our Haynes® 230® alloys are available in raw material grades as well as forgings. We produce forgings in either open die, closed die, or rolled ring forms. When materials are presented to use as forgings, we can produce them as rough machined or finish machined.
Our raw material forms include:
- Bar
- Wire
- Sheet
- Plate
- Forged Shapes
- Rolled Rings
- Forged Discs
- Flanges
- Tube
Haynes® 230® Alloy Applications
Haynes® 230® alloy’s unique characteristics make it suitable for various high-heat applications. Some examples include:
- Gas Turbine Components: combustion cans, transition ducts, flame holders, and exhaust thermocouple sheaths
- Chemical Processing: catalyst grid supports, thermocouple protection tubes, heat exchangers, ducts, and bellows
- Industrial Furnace Components: furnace retorts, chains, fixtures, burner flame shrouds, recuperator components, dampers, heat-treating baskets, grates, trays, thermocouple protection tubes, sparger tubes, and many more
Haynes® 230® Alloy Features
Several key features make Haynes® 230® alloy stand out in terms of fabricability and performance, including:
- Exceptional thermal stability and strength at high temperatures
- Environmental resistance to nitriding and oxidation
- Resistant to grain coarsening with heavy exposure to high temperatures and to brittleness after welding
- Typically heat treated in a solution to a temperature range of 2150 – 2275°F then water quenched or cooled for optimal properties
- Good ductility and can be fabricated, formed, and forged
- Can be cold or hot worked
- Can be welded using resistance welding, gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), or gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
